Storm Roles into Markdale
The Atom Foodtown Highlanders squared off against the Guelph Jr Storm Friday in Markdale.

The Highlanders started off winning the first faceoff of the game taking the puck into the offensive zone, and tallied the games first shot.  The tides quickly turned at 9:08 of the first when a Guelph player tipped a shot from the blue line five hole.  The Storm scored two more goal before the Highlanders found the back of the net.  Brandon Stewart (Township of Chatsorth) scored by one timing a nice pass from Thomas Brown (Mount Forest) who was fed on a heads up play by Tyson Lina (Hanover).  The Storm scored one more time before the period ended, leaving a score of 4-1 on the board at the end of the first.

Strong play by Mark Aljoe (Durham) throughout the second was rewarded with a multitude of opportunities, but the Storm goalie was equal to the task making some nice saves throughout the period.  At 5:42 of the second period the Highlanders caught Guelph on a bad line change sending Brandon Stewart and Thomas Brown in on a 2 on 0 breakaway.  Thomas sent a pass over to Brandon but the puck was just out of reach.  The second ended with a score of 4-1.

The third period was highlighted by a picture perfect one on one defensive play by Carson English (Township of Chatsworth), unfortunately leading to a penalty this year, but this is something that will be a tremendous asset for the young defensemen with an impeccable sense of timing.  Strong play from Thomas Brown and Brandon Stewart continued producing some scoring chances, to no avail unfortunately.  Guelph tallied two more goals before the final buzzer.  The final score was 6-1.
