One Season = Hard Work For Many
We started the season against the Oakville Rangers, and we finished the season against the Oakville Rangers.

Wow has time flown by!  It seems like only yesterday when we waited with excitement for the New Major Atom Foodland Highlanders to hit the ice against Oakville in the Ayton arena last fall.  It took a lot of effort by a lot of different people to get this new team off the ground.  Special thanks to the Highlanders Executive for the support and effort it took to start this new team and to give our boys the chance to grow and develop in an environment that promoted hockey skill development, as well as promoting the forming of new friendships!  You have given us a year like no other. Thank you!

The team would not have existed had it not been for the dedication of Trace Aljoe and Chris Ahrens.  The two worked to create the team, to bring about awareness of the new program, and to encourage parents to consider it as an option for their child.  Trace went on to manage the team and Chris was our head coach, both formidable jobs that were handled with dignity and respect.  Many fond memories have been created for our children, and to the two, of you we express our gratitude.

Lastly, I would like to thank the young men who played this season.  We, the parents, were most impressed with your sportsmanship, your hard work, and your pure love for the game.  It was a heavy practice schedule and you never once waivered,  you were always committed and always ready to give your best effort.  We were very proud of your tenacity and never say die attitude as was evident in our game against Oakville on Sunday.  Heading into the third period, 5-0 for Oakville would have had most teams throwing in the towel, but once again you hit the ice after the flood with determination and a zeal for the game that kept the Oakville Rangers at bay and created many solid scoring opportunities.  You have entertained and impressed us for an entire season, and there is no place we would rather be than sitting in a vehicle for two to three hours simply to watch our favourite hockey players play one more great games of hockey and then listen to you snore or the sounds of your movies and iPods as we drive the two to three hours home.  Thank you!

Well boys, you have one more “kick at the cat”, SCTA’s in two weeks…continue to work hard in practice as we know you will and finish strong!  GO HIGHLANDERS Go!
