Highlander Atoms Face the Hamilton Bull Dogs for the Final Time This Season.
The Highlander Atoms arrived at the arena on Sunday ready to play the Hamilton Bull Dogs for the final time this season.  Our boys started off the period strong but couldn’t answer two goals scored by Hamilton.  Talon Johnsen made two break away saves to keep the boys in the game and Loosemore and Lightfoot had the fans on their feet on a rush to the net that almost resulted in a goal.

The second period started with a penalty to the visiting team but the boys couldn’t capitalize on the one man advantage.  A minute after that power play the Highlander boys were on another power play and on a pass from Stewart, Aljoe found the back of the net for the first goal for the Atoms.  Our boys found themselves in penalty trouble at the end of the period and the Bull Dogs were able to score a short handed goal to add to their lead.  The period ended with one final goal for the Bull Dogs and with our boys killing off a late period penalty to start the third at full strength.

A short handed goal by the Bull Dogs at the start of the third had the visiting team up 5-1 but our boys battled strongly throughout the period creating many quality scoring chances.  The Bull Dogs were awarded a questionable penalty shot and Matthew Donnelly was able to close the door on the lone shooter.  The game ended 6-1 in favour of the Bull Dogs.

The Atom Boys enjoyed a holiday celebration after the game complete with gift exchanges, recognition of our generous sponsor Hinds FoodTown, delicious food and yummy desserts….well except for Mrs. Bye’s scrumptious SKOR bars which seemed to find their way into the Pee Wee tummies!  Look for the boys at the arena sporting their new Highlander ties, a treasured gift from their head coach, Chris Ahrens.  Thanks Coach Chris!
