In what can only be described as a quick improvement from the previous night, the Food Town Major Atoms made some great strides today and probably skipped a couple of steps on their Journey of continuous learning and growing. These fine young hockey players are picking up the little things at an accelerated rate. The break out was better, neutral zone coverage was also better, offensive attack was better. We are getting better thanks to their Hard Work and Effort!
The first period was the opposite of the first period the night before. The boys put on their game face and came to play and they did play hard. Many quick and fast shifts made the pace and flow of this game seem unremitting with few breaks as both teams were in a grove. The first period ended in a 0-0 draw but showcased many hard fought battles in front of the net and in the corner by our defence. Our forwards were also skating hard both ways and battling really hard along the boards for control which provided entertaining end to end action.
The second period saw the boys come out strong again and ended up getting the go ahead goal halfway through the period when Tyson Lina fired a back hand that had some zip on it into the twine with assists going to Thomas Brown and Sam Bye. The Express would answer with their own goal very shortly thereafter and then get another with about a minute to go to make the score 2-1 at the end of the second period.
The third period saw some lapses especially at the end of the game that allowed the Express to get 10 of their game total 26 shots. The express were able to get another goal from a rebound late in the game to round out the scoring at 3-1. The shots on net were 26-13.
This game was a good game! Our work ethic was sound and unresolved, the passing is getting better and we are learning. We are executing the drills from practice in a game situation and our reaction is better. Keep up the Hard Work Boys as we have taken another step on the Journey to where we want to be.
