"Bantams .500 in weekend play"
Written by Leanne West.

Following a Christmas break from games, the Biermans Bantams enjoyed a weekend on home turf...

Saturday's game would see the Highlander boys take 2 well-deserved points from the Brampton 45’s. Stopping 19 shots in net was Jason Goes (Cookstown) to back his team with the win. Brampton's lone goal would be the first of the game. Not far behind Brampton's lead, Justin Donnelly (Pinkerton) would find the mesh from the hash mark to tie the game (unassisted). Grey Bruce began to dig deep both offensively and defensively with a strong desire to take the game into their hands. Taking a 2-1 lead, Brent West (Shallow Lake) would fire one in from the lower end of the circle from a Cole Hodgins (Mount Forest) pass. Playing with momentum, the Biermans lads would take yet another lead right out of the gate in the 2nd, seeing Devin Perdue (Hanover) stuff one in at the net to finish some nice puck movement from linemates Donnelly and Jordan Caskenette (Owen Sound). Securing a solid lead, the Highlanders would take one last goal from the 45’s, as Donnelly would capitalize on a beauty pass from Caskenette from the far side of the net to take a 4-1 lead. The fans would see end-to-end action throughout the 3rd, with a final score at the buzzer of 4-1 in favor of the Highlanders.

Sunday's Chesley home ice would be sure to entertain the fans once again, as the Highlanders hosted the highly ranked Southern Tier Admirals.  The Admirals would catch the Highlanders sitting back on their heels and would take a 2-0 lead in the first period. Digging in offensively, the Grey Bruce boys would cut the lead in half, seeing West put their first behind the Admiral goalie from a defensive dump-in by Eric Langridge (Saugeen Shores) from Hodgins. Goalies would continue to be kept busy at both ends. Logan Freiburger (Arran-Elderslie) would then make a centre ice pass and fans would continue to be kept on the edge, watching Grey-Bruce drive hard to the net as West would move in and make a solid pass to Hodgins who would make no hesitation and find the back of it to tie the game. Intermission would take sides with the Admirals, as the visiting team would see 2 more quick goals early in the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead. Not giving up yet, the Highlander boys would continue to battle both offensively and defensively with many great scoring opportunities. Playing stellar between the pipes, Tristen Lewis (Saugeen Shores) would keep 30 shots out. While the hosting Highlanders would manage 22 shots on the Admiral netminder, the score would remain at a 4-2 final. A solid weekend for the Biermans boys....
