“Bantams Take 4 Points on The Road”

On Saturday the Biermans Highlanders traveled to Brampton to take on the 45s for a win, and that they did...

Jasper Akiwenzie (Owen Sound) would lead the boys first, seeing the net from just inside the blue line (unassisted). Four minutes later, Justin Donnelly (Pinkerton) would shadow his linemate Jordan Caskenette (Owen Sound) to the net, and stuff in a rebound to take a 2 goal lead on the 45s. With end-to-end action and many shots on both goaltenders, the remainder of the first period would be scoreless. Half way through the second period, defenseman Tyler Sutter (Chatsworth) would wire a shot past the 45s net minder on a pass from Devin Perdue (Hanover) and Caskenette to create a 3-0 lead for the Highlanders. Feeling the pinch, the Brampton squad began to close the gap, taking two goals on their visitors, but only for a short time as Justin McCrae (Owen Sound) would show patience at the net and make no hesitation on a rebound opportunity from the shot of Braeden Marshall (Dundalk) from Cole Hodgins (Mount Forest) to provide another two goal lead for the Grey Bruce boys. The 45s managed to squeak one final goal in on the Highlanders, but with a strong desire to take 2 points home, the Beirmans squad held tight as a team, and finished the game with a 4-3 win. Netminder Jason Goes (Cookstown) shared the win with his team.

On Sunday, a second road trip of the weekend would have the Highlanders playing against their hosts, the Oakville Rangers. The game would keep the fans entertained, as the Grey Bruce boys kept the Oakville net minder busy, with 36 shots. His second of the weekend, Sutter would once again see the back of the net with a shot from the point (unassisted) to give the Beirmans boys a 1-0 lead early in the first. A full period of play would pass by before the Highlanders would double their lead, as Caskenette would make a clean pass to Brent West (Shallow Lake), who would be sure to find the top corner of the mesh on a 2 on1 opportunity. Two minutes later, the Rangers would bounce back to slice the Highlander lead in half. That would be all that goalie Tristan Lewis (Saugeen Shores) would allow behind him, as he would assist his team in another 2 points for the weekend with a final score of 2-1.

The Highlanders will hit the road again next weekend, to play the St. Catherines Niagara North squad and the Burlington Eagles, for a three game weekend.
