"Bantams Narrowly Miss Weekend Points"

The Biermans Bar and Grill Bantams hit the road this past weekend to play St.Catherines’ Niagara North Stars and the Burlington Eagles.

Game #1 on Saturday would start out well as the Grey Bruce boys took the first lead with Justin McCrae (Owen Sound) slipping in a rebound shot from the stick of Justin Donnelly (Pinkerton), also assisted by Jordan Caskenette (Owen Sound). The end of the first period would see a tie game on the score clock at 2-2 with Grey Bruce's McCrae chalking up a second rebound goal, from defensive shooter Alec Tiley (Owen Sound) with Hayden Duplantis (Saugeen Shores) also assisting. The second period would be a tight one, with many scoring opportunities for the Biermans lads, but no goals to show for their efforts. Battling a defensive game in the third with a few unfortunate penalties to kill, the Grey Bruce squad would end the game with a 5-2 loss.

Ready for a second round later that day with the North Stars, the boys would play yet another tight game battling very hard at both ends of the ice. Despite their many scoring opportunities and defensive play the North Stars still managed to squeak out a 1-0 game winner from the Highlanders. Playing big between the pipes for Grey Bruce was Tristan Lewis (Saugeen Shores).

To end their road trip on Sunday, the boys took on the Burlington Eagles in an effort to take 2 points home with them. Donnelly would put the first goal on the board, stuffing one in on a breakaway on a pass from Devin Perdue (Hanover). The Eagles would quickly bounce back three times to take a two goal lead. With some steam still left, the Biermans squad would tighten the game to a 3-2 score, as Caskenette steals the puck from an Eagle player to find the back of the net. To tighten the game more, Caskenette would pick up his second of the game on a Perdue dump pass fresh off of the bench. With more shots on net than the hosts, the Biermans squad would not manage to find their way back from their deficit, and the Eagles would end the game with a 4-3 win. Playing his second game of the weekend in net was Jason Goes (Cookstown).

The Highlanders will travel to Guelph on Friday night to finish up their league play as they prepare for the SCTA OMHA qualifier the following weekend.
