Bantams Battle Hard On The Road
Written by Leanne West

The Biermans Bantams hit the road for 3 games just before Christmas. On Saturday Dec 22 the boys were hosted by the Niagara Rivermen in a double header, taking 3 of 4 points from the hosts...

In game one, the Rivermen would see the net first early in the 1st taking a 1-0 lead. To tie the game in a quick comeback would be Justin Donnelly (Pinkerton) from passing efforts by Brent West (Shallow Lake) and Jordan Caskenette (Owen Sound). Taking a much deserving lead, Brady Becker (Durham) would find the mesh unassisted. Keeping the fans on the edge, the Rivermen would battle back to tie the game at 2-2. The second period would see many goals back and forth as the Rivermen would pull ahead 4-2 but not for long. Full steam ahead, Caskenette would put the Highlanders back in the game with a 4-3 score assisted by his line mates Donnelly and West. Hungry for more, West would tie the game, capitalizing on nice puck movement from Donnelly and Caskenette. Making a nice defensive rush, Braeden Marshall (Dundalk) would pot one in on a pass from Devin Perdue (Hanover) to put the Biermans boys in a 5-4 lead. The Rivermen would then come back to tie once again, but with 11:13 remaining in the 3rd, Caskenette would put one last goal on the Highlander side of the scoreboard to pull the Grey Bruce boys ahead 6-5. However, at 8:08 the Rivermen would take one last shot at the Highlanders to create a final score of a 6-6 tie.

The 2nd game of the day would see the Highlanders take 2 points from the Rivermen. Hayden Duplantis (Saugeen Shores) would change the score clock first on a pass from Marshall. Not seeing a payout just yet, the end of the 1st period would see the Grey Bruce boys down 2-1. Coming back for a tie, Donnelly would see the net unassisted. Putting more pressure on again, Marshall would help his team take a 3-2 lead unassisted. In a back and forth battle, the Rivermen would tie once again. Liking the taste of the last goal, Marshall would pot yet another to take his team to a 4-3 lead and game ending score.

Sunday's game against hosting Halton Hurricanes would show a hard battle but unfortunately also some travel fatigue. The Biermans squad would take the first lead in the first on a Caskenette deke from Collin Zettler (Hanover) but that would be the only goal the Highlanders would see. Holding on tight in the 2nd the Highlanders would enjoy the smell of a victory, but the Hurricanes would take advantage of the Highlander travel legs in the 3rd, taking 3 goals from the boys to take a 3-1 win.

The Biermans Bantams would like to wish everyone a safe and healthy New Year and look forward to seeing you at the rink.
