"Bantams Steal 2 points from the Bulldogs"
Written by Leanne West.

A solid team effort offensively and defensively would pay off for the Biermans Bantams as they would take 2 points from the Hamilton Bulldogs at home in Flesherton on Saturday…

Playing stellar between the pipes, Tristen Lewis (Saugeen Shores) would deny the Bulldogs of 32 shots on net, while the Biermans squad would fire 26 on the Bulldogs with a final score of 6-4. The first period wouldn't see any change on the score sheet and at the 9:32 mark of the 2nd the Bulldogs would take a brief lead on the Highlanders. Battling back hard, the Highlanders would find the net as Justin Donnelly (Pinkerton) would put one over the shoulder of the Dogs netminder from passing efforts of Jasper Akiwenzie (Owen Sound) and Collin Zettler (Hanover). The Bulldogs would once again take a lead but not for long as Hayden Duplantis (Saugeen Shores) would see the back of the net from passes by Jordan Caskenette (Owen Sound) and Akiwenzie. The Bulldogs would bite back and head into intermission with a 3-2 lead.

The Biermans boys hit the ice with determination and team work, and grabbed the Dogs by the tails tying up the score 3-3 with a goal from the point by Akiwenzie from Caskenette. With end to end action the Highlanders would take a 4-3 lead as Duplantis would find the net again from puck movement by Akiwenzie and Caskenette. Feeling the pinch, the Bulldogs would battle back to tie the game one more time. With 2:42 remaining, Caskenette would tip one in over the glove of the Dogs netminder (unassisted) to take a 5-4 lead. The Biermans boys continued to battle hard to preserve their lead, when Brent West (Shallow Lake) would win the draw and take advantage of an empty net (unassisted) to finish the game off with a 6-4 win over the Bulldogs.

On Sunday the boys headed to Guelph to face the Storm. Early into the game the storm would take the lead on the Highlanders. Both goalies would face many shots but unfortunately the Storm would have better luck at the net. Down 3-0 the visiting Highlanders would only succeed once on the Storm netminder seeing Caskenette (unassisted) take the only goal for a 3-1 game finish. Goalie Jason Goes (Cookstown) made 21 saves for the Highlanders.

The Highlander Bantams travel to Niagara Falls this weekend for a double header on Saturday and visit Halton Hills on Sunday before they enter into a Christmas break.

The Biermans Bantams would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
