The Rangers Ride into Town
The Power Workers’ Union Minor PeeWee Highlanders had been playing strong hockey of late! Optimism was strong as the team was about to share the ice with the Oakville Rangers. Having played Oakville strong in our previous two meetings, the Highlanders knew that two points were there for the taking.

It was evident from the drop of the puck that the Highlanders did not have the jump and energy from the previous week. The game saw the Grey-Bruce hemmed in their own end and net minder Brayden Kelso tested early on several dangerous chances. The slow start and strong play by Oakville resulted in an early 3-0 lead by the six minute mark of the first period.

Coach Dennis Black could see the boys struggling and a change was in order. Summoned from the bench was goaltender Matthew Donnelly to help hold the fort until the boys found their legs! The Highlanders continued to be on the defensive relinquishing another goal and ending the 1st period 4-0.

The second period saw Brayden Kelso back in the net for Grey-Bruce! This period was a much stronger effort in front of Kelso in which Grey-Bruce managed some early chances. Both teams exchanged power plays and scoring chances but neither team managed to get on the score board. The period ended 4-0. The Highlanders seem to be playing better, the only question was if it was enough to overcome the 4-0 deposit.

The Third period began similar to the second. Both teams exchanging early chances. Finally early in the third period, Nathan Ahrens connected with Cam Lightfoot who buried the puck behind the Oakville goaltender putting the Highlanders on the board! Oakville sensing that Grey-Bruce had some new life, responded with some strong play of their own. The period saw scoring chances by both teams 16 to 8 in favor of Oakville, but to no avail as the game ended 4-1.

As the Rangers rode out of town, the Minor PeeWee's had to now try to focus ahead to Sunday’s game against the Welland Admirals. We all knew this would be a difficult task as thoughts of Christmas would surely be on the minds of all the boys.

Go Highlanders Go!!
