Highlanders “Sore” with the Eagles
The Power Workers’ Union Minor PeeWee’s hosted the Burlington Eagles Sunday February 10. The first period saw back and forth action from both teams which resulted in a scoreless but entertaining first period. Shots were 7-2 against.
The second period saw our Highlanders shorthanded and 30 seconds into their power play the Eagles used the chance to take the lead. They used their momentum and scored another two minutes later. Our crew made some good chances of their own. A great rush from Will Black and Tyson Lina produced a nice shot and rebound both denied by the Eagles goaltender. The Eagles scored their third of the period at 2:09 and the second period is in the books.
Two minutes into the third Tyson Hutcheson dug the puck out from behind the Eagles net and passed it out to Jordon Ferrier. His shot rebounded and was then buried by Cam Lightfoot. We were on the board! A minute and a half later some very nice passing and a 3 on 1 gained Will Black a goal on the stats sheet. Assists went to Tyson Lina and Jayce Busby. A rush by the Eagles found Jayce all alone against two Eagles. The shot found mesh and its 4-2. One minute later Jordon Ferrier found himself in the same spot against 3 Eagles. This would be the last goal of the game, but not the last of the action. Will Black took a huge hit to the head that left him motionless on the ice for what seemed to be way too long for comfort. The whistle wasn’t even blown yet and trainer Cory Lina was already running across the ice. The crowd cheered when Will finally made it back to his feet. Cam Lightfoot was obviously out for revenge as the puck dropped. He was given a three game suspension for avenging a two minute penalty...A referee shortcoming in my opinion.
