HIGHLANDERS BEAT THE GUELPH STORM!!!
On Saturday Dec 15th, Corey's Tree Cutting Minor PeeWee Highlanders ventured to Guelph to take on the #1 team in their loop. Teasing from Storm players during warm up seemed to wind our boys up. Our short bench is evident as the fans look on. Our squad of 4 defence and 8 forwards charges into battle with our man Will Black returning to the ice for his first game after injuring his ankle.
The first period was scoreless despite killing off a Highlander penalty. Strong battles won in front of our net and great fore-checking kept us in the game.
The second period brought a penalty to the Guelph team which our boys took complete advantage of. Jordon Ferrier and Mark Aljoe set up Dawson Fahrer for our first goal. The rock solid goal tending of Matt Donnelly with his lightning fast glove hand and the second period is in the books 1-0 for us.
The third period proved just as exciting. Our boys stayed out of the penalty box despite showing no mercy to the Storm. Solid contact and endurance were displayed throughout the game. Our second goal of the game was again scored by Dawson Fahrer on great setup by Nathan Ahrens. A picture perfect play from Mark Aljoe and Tyson Lina set up Josh Lorenz for our third goal! About a minute later Guelph answered our goal with one of their own but it was too little too late! At 1:12 of the third Mark Aljoe narrowly missed a long shot at an empty net. Cam Lightfoot carried the puck down the ice and proudly scored the empty net goal that finished the game 4-1.
