Hectic Week For Scandinave Minor PeeWees
As the regular season starts to wind down, the Scandinave Minor PeeWees found themselves playing a lot of hockey the past 2 weekends. With precious points to be had, the boys were looking to earn some valuable points as they prepare for the year end tournament.

Last weekend, the team enjoyed 3 home games in Chesley. On Saturday, the third place Guelph Storm pulled into town. The Highlanders came out with one of their finest team performances of the year as they scored first and never looked back. Connor Roberts opened the scoring on a nice feed from Hayden Coulter. In the second period, the boys buried 3 more goals to take a 4-2 lead into the third frame. Trevor Donaldson popped one high on the Storm tender. Justin Marlowe collected the helper. Jamie Damignani snagged the third goal to increase the lead to 3-1. Connor Roberts and Hayden Coulter collected the helpers. Roberts rounded out the scoring in the second period. Brendan Cederberg and Hayden Coulter chipped in with the helpers. In the final frame, Carter Buehlow popped in the fifth Highlander marker as the boys walked away with the 5-2 victory. Justin Marlowe and Trevor Donaldson collected the assists. Malachi Albrecht was solid in net as he thwarted the Storm attackers on several occasions as they tried to get back into the contest.
On Sunday afternoon, the team hosted the Niagara North Stars for a double header. This was the first meeting for the 2 squads so neither team knew what to expect. Hoping to build on the positive play from Saturday, the team was hoping to walk away with some more crucial points. The North Stars displayed some excellent speed and some precision passing as they went on to easily defeat the hometown favorites by scores of 7-1 and 7-2. Hayden Coulter collected 2 goals and Connor Roberts collected the single marker. Connor Roberts, chipped in with 2 helpers while singles went to Hayden Coulter and Brendan Cederberg.
This past weekend, the boys traveled to St. Catherines for a return engagement with the same Niagara North Stars. The team was eager to avenge a poor performance the previous week in Chesley. In game #1, the Highlanders played  an aggressive game and displayed a strong work ethic. Both teams battled hard as the fans were treated to some excellent 2 way hockey. With the teams tied at 1 goal a piece headed into the third, it looked like this game would end in a draw. Connor Roberts scored the first Highlander goal with the help of his linemates Brendan Cederberg and Hayden Coulter. With just 2 minutes remaining in the final frame, the boys found themselves down 2 men in the penalty box. The North Stars capitalized on the power play and took a 2-1 lead with under 2 minutes remaining. Not to be outdone by their opponents, the coaches pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. With only a handful of seconds left to play, the Highlanders gained possession of the puck and Carter Buehlow fired a puck at the net that managed to sneak through the maze of players in front of the net to tie the contest. Jamie Damignani and Brendan Cederberg chipped in with the helpers. Lucas Pfeil was strong between the pipes as he had one of his finest performances of the year.
In game #2, the fans were once again treated to some fine hockey. The game was full of end to end action from the drop of the puck. The North Stars capitalized on 2 of their scoring opportunities and took a 2-0 lead into the final 15 minutes of action. Give credit to the Highlander squad as they continued to press and work hard to even the score. Midway through the third, Derrick Cornfield sniped one "bar down" from the point as the boys narrowed the lead to 2-1. Jamie Damignani and Evan Visser chipped in with the helpers. The team continued to press and once again pulled their tender in the last minute. It looked like the team would pull another "rabbit" out of their hat as they swarmed the North Star goalie. Unfortunately, there would be no last minute theatrics in this game. Malachi Albrecht was strong in net as he was forced to make some key saves to keep the boys in the contest when they were down by 2 goals. The "D" played smart, consistent hockey for 2 games as they limited the number of scoring opportunities for the North Stars. The team will now prepare for 3 more games this coming weekend. Keep working boys!! You know you can do it!!
