Scandinave Minor PeeWees Compete at Kitchener Bluline Tournament
The Scandinave Minor PeeWees were back in tournament action last weekend as they traveled to Kitchener to compete in the Bluline Tournament. It was a great opportunity to compete against teams from the Alliance division.

In game #1, the young Highlander squad went toe to toe with the Huron Perth Lakers. This was a back and forth affair with plenty of action at both ends of the pond. The boys competed but gave up one goal in each frame to lose by a score of 3-0.
Game #2 was worth the price of admission. It turned out to be the highlight of the weekend. It was an epic battle against the Kitchener Jr. Rangers. The Highlanders took it to the big, bad blue machine early but before you could say"Is that kid really eleven?", the Boys were down 4-1 headed into the third period. Justin Marlowe scored on a rather harmless shot to keep the boys in the game. As the puck dropped to start the third, a barrage of shots were fired at the helpless netminder. Connor Roberts scored an unassisted goal to narrow the gap to 2. This seemed to rally the lads as they continued to press their opponent. After some relentless forechecking, Justin Marlowe and Trevor Donaldson set up Connor Roberts for his second marker. The deficit was now just one! With a minute remaining in the contest, the goalie was pulled for an extra attacker. With buddies buzzing all over the net, Connor Roberts delighted the crowd with the game tying goal with only 7 ticks left in the clock! Hayden Coulter and Carter Buehlow were credited with the assists.
As the boys headed into game number 3 against a very good Ottawa Sting squad, there was quite a bit of optimism considering the stunning turn of events in the previous game. Once again, the boys came out strong and played a spirited 3 periods of hockey. When it was all said and done, the team outshot their opponent but managed to only put one behind the Sting tender and come up a few short. Connor Roberts recorded the lone goal unassisted.
Still hopeful for a chance to mathematically advance to semi-final action, the Highlanders came out flying against the Cambridge Hawks and took a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by Hayden Coulter. Brenden Cederberg collected the helper.
As has been the case for most of the season, the boys had several quality scoring opportunities but just can`t seem to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. The Hawks took full advantage of their opportunities and went on to claim a 5-1 victory. They would eventually move on and defeat Huron Perth in the finals to capture the hardware.
There is nothing like some good tournament action to bring the players and families together for some great hockey, team bonding, and some great social time. Heck! Rumour has it there was even a real "Galoot" sighting during the weekend. How often do you see that?
