Scandinave Minor PeeWees Tackle With Bulldogs in Steel Town!
The Scandinave Minor PeeWees were back in action this past weekend as they packed up their hard hats, steel toed boots and their lunch buckets and headed to Hamilton to compete with the big dogs.

This was going to be a "blue collar" affair with lots of physical play down low. The Bulldogs came out strong but the Highlanders kept things close for the first 2 frames. Heading into the third, the boys were only down by 2 with a vision of a late rally to even the match. The Bulldogs "punched in" for the third and wore out the visiting squad. They potted 3 more in the third and went on to blank the Highlanders by a score of 5-0. There would be no celebratory "cannolis" on this night!
With plenty of time to think about Sunday's game on the ride home from "Steel Town", the boys were looking forward to their game on Sunday against the Southern Tier Admirals(That would be Welland to most of us). This was the first time each squad had seen each other and there were some valuable points to be had. On yet another spectacular day in Chesley(We will pay for this weather soon!), the Admirals came out strong. The boys looked sluggish and unorganized. STA took advantage of this and popped 2 quick ones to take an early 2-0 lead in the contest. At the break, a few "words of encouragement" were directed at the boys and they responded with a much better effort. The Highlanders notched a couple and trailed the Admirals by a score of 3-2 heading into the final frame. The boys continued to mount pressure in the offensive zone and eventually scored the tying goal midway through the period. In the last 5 minutes, both teams had glorious chances to bury the game winning goal. Both tenders made some key saves late in the game to secure a point for each team.
The lesson of the weekend- "If you are going to travel to Hamilton to play the Bulldogs, make sure your lunch pail is full".
See you at the rink!
