Closer and Closer Still!
The First Concrete Ltd Bantams are inching closer but their first win remains elusive!

The Grey Bruce Highlander First Concrete Ltd. Bantams demonstrated solid improvement over their weekend contests and are creeping closer to success on the scoreboard.

On Saturday in Ayton the Bantams overcame a slow start to fall 4-3 to the visiting Guelph team.  Despite their slow start they actually led 1 - 0 on a wraparound goal by Noah Johnson.  However, the second period saw the home team give up 2 more shorthanded goals and an even strength marker.  Jordan Taylor answered with a goal of his own by banging in a Josh Urbshott rebond of the glass and the Highlanders trailed 3-2 going into the third.  Despite dominating the period the boys were only able to trade goals with Guelph with Jakob Lee converting a 2 on 1 pass from Ben Tupker.
Sunday night saw a renewed energy as the Highlanders faced a difficult scheduling time and a stingy opponent in a late contest with the Oakville Rangers.  The Rangers struck first with a powerplay marker in the second period but before the period ended Noah Johnson banged in a rebound after a nice passing play by Troy Weber and Ben Tupker.
The defensive battle continued into the third with neither team giving up any solid scoring opportunities until the stalemate was broken in the third.  Far be it from this broadcaster to look for excuses for our teams shortcomings BUT two ridiculous interference calls put the Highlanders down 5 on 3 and the Rangers were able to capitalize.  Unfortunately, that 2 - 1 score remained as the final result and the Highlanders will continue to search for their first win of the season after edging closer and closer still to a positive result!
