DELAYS, DELAYS, DELAYS!
The First Concrete Bantams were ready to begin their home opener with a bang but the bang they were looking for was delayed!

With a full slate of practices under their belt, the First Concrete Ltd. Bantams were ready to put it all together in their home opener.  Unfortunately, the start they were hoping for was delayed as, not one, but two panes of glass were broken in warmup!
The game itself opened with both teams displaying a "feeling out process" characteristic of early season games. For almost three full periods the fans of both teams were left starving for something to cheer for as the game remained scoreless.  The Highlanders had their chances and missed a glorious opportunity to strike first as Will Rickerby narrowly missed an open net as the puck slid through his legs in the first period.  There were 2 on 1's galore throughout the game but in each case the result was high and wide and the delay for the first goal of the regular season continued!.  At the other end Cam Plante was equal to the task as he steered every challenge wide.
The turning point came late in the third when the First Concrete Ltd Bantams were given a power play with 3 minutes remaining.  In retrospect, borrowing a page out of the football rule book and declining that penalty may have been the prudent move.  With the game on the line the Oakville Rangers decided to pressure the puck and were able to force turnovers leading to two shorthanded breakaways!
The result was a hard fought 2- 0 loss for the Highlander Bantams with lots to feel good about and a few things to sharpen up heading into next weekend!
