A Thanksgiving Day Turkey
written by: The Trainer
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, with the warm autumn sun shining and with the smell of roasting turkeys in the air, your Scandinave Grey Bruce Minor Bantam Highlanders took to the ice to take on another bird…the Burlington Eagles. Now, everyone knows what a turkey dinner, mashed potatoes, squash, corn , buttermilk buns, cauliflower, green beans and stuffing all smothered in gravy will do to the human body. It makes one want to retire to the couch with pumpkin pie and tea in hand, watch some football, and let out the occasional belch to compliment the chef.
Watching the game today, the hometown fans must have thought the Highlanders had their dinner before the game. Hardly any jump, lethargic second efforts, poor passing and sleepy forechecks is all that they saw. Sure the shots will show 33-13 for the home team, but most of those were easy wristers that the Eagle goalie would gobble up with his trapper and freeze the play. GBH could not get any momentum going. It was really almost unbelievable. Like Thanksgiving, hopefully this kind of effort only comes around once a year.
Final Score: Eagles 1 Turkeys 0
Next game: Sat Oct 19 vs. Brampton 45’s
