This past weekend the Atom team headed to Rochester, NY for
their first tournament as a team.
Friday morning the guys met up with the North Toronto team for a very
exciting game. The coaches pulled
the goalie with a couple of minutes left in the game to try and tie it up, much
to our dismay the other team scored with 2 seconds left in the game bringing
the score to 4-2 loss for the
team. The guys played well and
fought hard to keep it a close battle.
That afternoon the team faced off against the West Seneca team, our guys fought hard and played a great game, however, West Seneca got one up on us to end the game with a 2-1 lead. Now the fun begins…Saturday the guys were on fire! The team met up with the Webster Cyclones first and later in the day the Mercer Chiefs. The guys were on fire! The Cyclones are likely still wondering what hit them. Every player set up and made amazing plays to overtake the Cyclones 6-2. The Chiefs were up next, once again the guys out did themselves with a 5-0 win.
With two wins and two losses, the squad was in a tough position, knowing that a win on Sunday morning would move them on to a medal round. Sunday morning brought the Erie team to the rink for a well fought game. Back and forth the game went…both teams were chomping at the bit to get the first point on the board! Finally, with just over two minutes left in the game Jaeden French (Collingwood) put one over the goalie’s shoulder! Now the guys just had to hold that lead, with much anticipation on the bench and in the crowd, the guys finished the game with a 1-0 win. Prior to this game the parents were thinking we may be on our way home before noon, however, the team was back on the ice at 2:30 for the bronze medal round! That being said, nothing like keeping it close to home, the squad met up against the North Central Predators (Rama) for the medal round. Our guys must have really wanted that trophy, with the tanks almost empty they drove home that puck every chance they got to bring the game to a 7-2 victory!!
Congratulations to the entire team; Glen Crandall (Dundalk) and Ryan Wheeler (Kincardine), each of these goalies had a shutout over the weekend.
