The team met up at the Activa Centre in Kitchener against
the North Bay Trappers for a noon game on Friday. The game was close with Spencer Maddock (Owen Sound)
shooting from the blue line with a pass from Jack Dupont (Collingwood) to make
it a 1-0 game. The Trappers were
not long to catch up, and later in the game Travis Verbeek (Flesherton) had a
great goal assisted by Ryan Colqhoun (Hanover). The guys played a great game;
unfortunately the Trappers got one up on the Atom team and ended the game
3-2.
Game two, later in the day was a trip to the Sportsworld Complex against the Waterloo Wolves. The guys played hard but were unable to get a shot by the Wolves goalie ending in a 4-0 loss.
Waking up to snow Saturday morning made for an interesting drive for the families that were commuting to Kitchener!! The Don McLaren Arena was the first stop against the North Central Predators. The team played hard with a whole lot of end to end action. Ray Hou (Port Elgin) netted the team’s first, assisted by Colqhoun. Patrick Brown (Mount Forest) potted the second unassisted. The game came to an end with the Predators scoring with seven seconds left on the clock to leave it at a 2-2 tie.
The team headed back to the Activa Centre to take on the hometown squad, the Jr. Kitchener Rangers. The Oktoberfest mascot, Onkel Hans was on hand to drop the puck at centre ice prior to the game, where Mason Watt (Collingwood) represented our team. The guys knew this would be a tough squad, and with the coaches doing a little shift in the front lines, they played great. Carson Yost (Chatsworth) assisted by Verbeek and Colqhoun netted one and Jaeden French (Collingwood), assisted by Matthew Grootendorst (Flesherton) potted our second goal. Kitchener won the game 8-2 in the end.
Off to Brampton Saturday evening to take on Halton. Good luck guys!
