Written by Lori Adams - The Atom’s closed 2013 with a tournament in Burlington
between Christmas and New Year’s...the guys played very well against Niagara
North, Ajax/Pickering, Peterborough and Mississauga. Ryan Colquhoun (Hanover) netted two over the weekend, Travis
Verbeek (Flesherton) with one and Ray Hou (Port Elgin) also chalked one
up. Ray, Jaeden French
(Collingwood) and Aiden Ferrier (Durham) received assists on these goals.
The following weekend (Jan. 4) the guys played host to a double header against Welland in the Markdale rink. The team played very well, and was able to bring in a tie the first game. Patrick Brown (Mount Forest) netted our first of the game assisted by Travis and Aiden. Spencer Maddock (Owen Sound) blasted in number two with a great pass from Ray. Jaeden had a great shot to beat the goalie assisted by Travis.
Game two was also very close, the squad lost by one, but it was a hard fought battle. Mason Watt (Collingwood) found the back of the net assisted Jaeden and our goaltender Glenn Crandall (Dundalk). Travis Verbeek slipped one by their goalie assisted by Matt Grootendorst (Flesherton) and Will Adams (Meaford). Three and four were scored by Matt assisted by Travis, Jaeden and Mason.
January 5 found the team at home to Hamilton. The guys did their best to hold off the opposition and Ryan Wheeler (Kincardine), our goalie faced many shots on net, however Hamilton came away with the win. Patrick and Jaeden were the scorers of this game with Matt and Travis assisting.
The squad again played at home this past weekend against Buffalo. The squad played well but couldn’t seem to bury the puck. Matt was the only scorer (unassisted) of the double header.
The team now goes on the road to Brampton for a double header this coming Saturday, then off to Niagara and Halton the following weekend.
