After a couple of detours in the road the team got to
Milverton for a very exciting game! Being the team’s second game of the season, they did a great job moving the puck. Matthew Grootendorst (Flesherton) moved in on a great pass from Travis Verbeek (Flesherton) and potted our first goal of the game to make it a tie of one at the end of the first period. The Lakers answered back in the second to put them ahead at the end of two, however, Ray Hou (Port Elgin) took off down the outside and headed straight to the net to bring the team once again to a tie. The guys fought hard to try and take the lead but the game ended at 2-2. Great job guys!
Sunday the team played host to Guelph in Ayton. The team came out strong and played that way the entire game!! Jaeden French (Collingwood) put the first point on the board, however, Guelph wasn’t too far behind to answer back to even things up at the end of one. The second period Verbeek, Grootendorst and Patrick Brown (Mount Forest) passed the puck around in front of the net until Verbeek buried it! A couple of minutes later Brown, with the help of Grootendorst and Aiden Ferrier (Durham) made another great play and brought the team up 3-1 at the end of two. Ryan Colquhoun (Hanover) took the puck unassisted to the net for one more goal! The game ended 4-1 and the guys were ecstatic with the win!!!
The Atoms play host again to Guelph for a league game this Saturday in Flesherton. Good luck!
