Atoms Undefeated in Rama
Written by Lori Adams
The team travelled to Rama on Sunday, September 8 and played
their first game of the season against the North Central Predators! The action packed game had the fans on
the edge of the seats waiting for the scoring to begin.
With over 10 minutes of play the Predators were on the board, however, it didn’t take long for Carson Yost (Chatsworth), assisted by Calvin Stewart (Chatsworth) to answer back. Less than a minute later Patrick Brown (Mount Forest) netted a setup from Travis Verbeek (Flesherton). Jaeden French (Collingwood) was next to score unassisted to bring the game to a 3-2 score at the end of the first period.
With the first period jitters out of the way the team got a little more comfortable on the ice and Ryan Colquhoun (Hanover) took off like a shot with an awesome pass from Wyatt Steen (Dundalk) scoring a great goal. Colquhoun had another goal to add to the score board that period assisted by Austin Waite (Chatsworth) and Stewart. With a couple of minutes left in the second period Brown netted his second of the game assisted by Matthew Grootendorst (Flesherton). The team was ahead 6-5 at the end of the second period and were hoping to hold off the opposing team for another 15 minutes of play.
The team played very well and held on to the lead until the game was nearly over - the score ended in a 6-6 tie. Our goalies did a great job in net, Glenn Crandall (Dundalk) who played the first half of the game and Ryan Wheeler (Kincardine) who finished out the nail biting second half. Good luck to the team Saturday, September 14 in Milverton against the Huron Perth Lakers and Sunday, September 15 against the Guelph Storm on home ice.
