On October 9th the Garb and Gear
Source for Sports Midgets made the trek south for a game against the Burlington
Eagles. Determined to keep the streak alive the team hit the ice flying,
however Burlington appeared just as determined, scoring the games first
marker. Not to be outdone Justin Graham
#21 (Shelburne) assisted by Nick Bruce #15 (Chatsworth & District) and Ben
Scheel #19 (Kincardine) popped one in to even things out. Just over 2 minutes
later Burlington felt the need to make it 2-1 but Reid Simmons #14 (Shallow
Lake), with help from Josh Perdue #8 (Saugeen Shores) and Connor Shaw #20
(Arran-Elderslie), worked to tie it up, ending period one.
In the second, tied at a pair a piece,
Jamie Bennett #81 (Shelburne), with the assistance of Colin Rigney #61
(Osprey), scored to put the Highlanders ahead for the first time in the
game. Quinten Bruce #91 (Grand Valley)
and Brady Richards #12 (Chesley) then teamed up making it 4-2. Burlington tried
to make in close by scoring their third in the third however, Nick Bruce #15
(Chatsworth & District) assisted by Ben Scheel #19 (Kincardine) and Liam
Francis #7 (Mount Forest), put the game out of reach with the 5th
Gray Bruce goal. Net minding was a stoical Tibor Svitek #30 (Guelph) who
stopped 25 of 28 shots. With a final score of 5-3 the Midget Highlanders find
their season off to a 4 and 0 start.
