The wheels continue to turn for the Garb and Gear Source for Sports Midgets.  The team has started the season with determination and strength, sitting with a 4 and 0 record.

The Midgets rolled into Flesherton on the 7th of October for back-to-back games against St. Catherines Niagara North.  In game one the Midgets came out flying and never let up for a solid three periods.  The final found a defeated St. Kitt’s team suffering from a 5 – 0 drubbing.  Goals in the game went to Brady Richards #12 (Chesley), Braden Boley #3 (Owen Sound), Justin Graham #21 (Shelburne), Colin Rigney #61 (Osprey) and Nick Bruce #15 (Chatsworth & District).  Assists were garnered by Quinten Bruce #91 (Grand Valley), Josh Perdue #8 (Saugeen Shores), Brandon Eagles #17 (Meaford) (2x), Connor Shaw #20 (Arran-Elderslie) and Robert White #5 (Paisley). Solid net minding by Tibor Svitek #30 (Guelph) earned him the shut out.

Game 2, played a scant 4 hours after the first, found an equally determined Highlanders team hit the ice. The Midgets played classic fast and physical hockey, which led them to a second solid win as they beat St. Catherines Niagara North by a score of 5 to 1.  Goals in this game were scored by Brandon Eagles #17 (Meaford), Reid Simmons #14 (Shallow Lake), Colin Rigney #61 (Osprey), Ben Scheel #19 (Kincardine) and Nick Bruce #15 (Chatsworth & District). The goals were earned with the assistance of Colin Rigney #61 (Osprey), Josh Perdue #8 (Saugeen Shores), Braden Boley #3 (Owen Sound), Kyle Hunter #77 (Grand Valley), Robert White #5 (Paisley) (2x), Nick Bruce #15 (Chatsworth & District), Justin Graham #21 (Shelburne), and Ben Scheel #19 (Kincardine). Rock steady in net, only allowing a single marker was Malcolm Young #60 (Orangeville).

On October 9th the Garb and Gear Source for Sports Midgets made the trek south for a game against the Burlington Eagles. Determined to keep the streak alive the team hit the ice flying, however Burlington appeared just as determined, scoring the games first marker.  Not to be outdone Justin Graham #21 (Shelburne) assisted by Nick Bruce #15 (Chatsworth & District) and Ben Scheel #19 (Kincardine) popped one in to even things out. Just over 2 minutes later Burlington felt the need to make it 2-1 but Reid Simmons #14 (Shallow Lake), with help from Josh Perdue #8 (Saugeen Shores) and Connor Shaw #20 (Arran-Elderslie), worked to tie it up, ending period one.

In the second, tied at a pair a piece, Jamie Bennett #81 (Shelburne), with the assistance of Colin Rigney #61 (Osprey), scored to put the Highlanders ahead for the first time in the game.  Quinten Bruce #91 (Grand Valley) and Brady Richards #12 (Chesley) then teamed up making it 4-2. Burlington tried to make in close by scoring their third in the third however, Nick Bruce #15 (Chatsworth & District) assisted by Ben Scheel #19 (Kincardine) and Liam Francis #7 (Mount Forest), put the game out of reach with the 5th Gray Bruce goal. Net minding was a stoical Tibor Svitek #30 (Guelph) who stopped 25 of 28 shots. With a final score of 5-3 the Midget Highlanders find their season off to a 4 and 0 start.
