Wednesday, October 3rd marked the start of the Midget Highlanders 2012/2013 season. The team travelled to Brampton for the season opener, facing the 45’s.
The teams had met twice before, once for a pre-season match, which saw the Highlanders win handily 6-1 and again at the Toronto Titans’ Prospect Tournament where the Brampton 45’s returned the favour, beating the Highlanders 6-2.
As the game began it was clear that this was a match both teams desired to win. Each team played hard and physical, leading to Brampton losing a player after a Check From Behind call. The Highlanders spent a good amount of time in Brampton’s end but had difficulty solving the goalie problem. The matter was finally resolved during the third period when, at 7 minutes 59 seconds, Reid Simmons #14 (Shallow Lake), assisted by Josh Perdue #8 (Saugeen Shores), scored a solid marker by going high on the 45’s tender.
In the Highlanders end Malcolm Young #60 (Orangeville), played solid between the pipes earning the shutout with the finals score 1-0. After game one the team has a perfect record.
