Pee Wees Win Quinte Red Devil Tournament
written by: The Trainer
Ten PeeWee teams would start the tournament, and only one would rise above. All teams gave a good effort, only one gave it their all. The battles were fierce; one team would be left standing. Your Scandinave Pee Wee Grey Bruce Highlanders traveled to Belleville for the Quinte Red Devil tournament and won it all, winning 5 of 6 games on the weekend.
The only losing cause was the first game, Friday morning, against the Whitby Wildcats. The 4-2 loss came in a game that the Highlanders clearly outplayed their opponents.
The Peterborough Petes (6-0) shut out to Aidan Quish,Ajax-Pickering (6-1), Upper Canada (2-1) and the South Central Coyotes (7-0) shut out to Lucas Pfeil, were all pulverized at the hands of the Highlanders.
The final featured the home town Quinte Red Devils. As expected, the Devils came to play. It was a battle right to the end with Quinte scoring with 16 seconds left in regulation to send this game to over time. 5 on 5 solved nothing as did 4 on 4. 3 on 3 saw a lot of open ice and the game was back and forth. A beautiful rush by Trent Verbeek, of the Highlanders, produced a nice rebound that was promptly buried into the back of the Quinte net by Connor Roberts to seal the 5-4 win. It would be another Tournament Championship for the Highlanders, their second of this season.
The weekend would produce a few bumps, some bruises, and at least one burn. Those are just some of the external injuries that you could see, there were lapses in good judgment and the insides took a beating as well. Luckily the human body has a wonderful way of repairing itself, and so , the parents should be okay in time for the Christmas break tournament in Burlington, where the Highlanders will try and win a third championship in a row.
