The Waste Management Highlander peewee team enjoyed a successful weekend at the Chicago Bauer International Invitational Tournament last weekend.  The build up to the weekend was intense as the team prepared to meet the challenge of no body contact and zero delay on off-side calls.  The boys were primed and pumped to show their skills to the USA teams and their hard work and effort did not disappoint.

Game one secured win one for the team and was against the Arizona Hockey Union where this team quickly learned that ice hockey is not a desert sport.  The Highlanders played a strong game for three periods and the final score was 11-0 in favour of the Canadian team!

Armstrong in net for win and Coburn was the golden stick winner for the game netting a hat trick for the team!

Game two was a disappointing loss for the Waste Management Peewees as they matched up against the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies.  The final score was 5-0.  Coach Lee has this to say about the game “Despite outshooting them 33 - 19 we gave up 3 powerplay goals in a game that was much better than score would indicate.”  The team had challenges putting the puck in the net, but better things were to come in game 3.  Weber was golden stick winner for game #2.

Game three was a triumph again for the Highlanders.  It was a dominant performance and a total team effort to finish in a 5-0 win.  Playing against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Waste Management Highlanders showed everyone why hockey is Canada’s game!

Goals:

Lee from Johnson and Thompson

Lee from Johnson  and Maddock

Lee unassisted and shorthanded

Fieghan from Rickerby and Urbschott

Armstrong solid in second win of tournament and Lee was golden stick winner netting FOUR goals for the team.

With two wins the team placed 2nd in their pool, advancing them to the next round.  They would face off against the Miami Toros at 6:00pm on day two of the tournament.  Unfortunate for the Highlanders they faced a 6-2 loss against the team that would go all the way to the final and place 2nd in the tournament.  The Waste Management Peewees were caught off guard in the first period and were down 4-0.  They fought back with solid play overall, but were a bit unlucky offensively.

Goals:

Feighan from Rickerby and Weber

Skinner from Rickerby - shorthanded

Charlebois won golden stick this game for his efforts on defence for the team.

Overall, a great weekend for the team.  With 16 teams starting in their division, the Waste Management Peewees advanced in the top 8 to the quarter finals.   Great work team!

Moving on to this weekend, you can catch the action at the Chesley arena as the Waste Management peewees take on Guelph Jr. Storm at 2:00pm on Saturday November 12 and then on Sunday November 13 at 4:00pm they take on Brampton Jr. Battalion.
