Waste Management Peewees Notch A Win Over The Thanksgiving Weekend.
The Waste Management Peewees spent their Thanksgiving Weekend away from home this year, at the Markham Majors Tournament.  There were 22 teams in the tournament and the Highlanders finished in 15th place.  Ahead of local area AAA teams such as the Lambton Jr. Sting and the Kitchener Jr. Rangers.

Coming out strong the Highlanders played Perinton Youth Hockey where the team kicked things off with a solid 8-1 victory.  Game MVP was Bradyn Thompson.  Tyler Atkinson was in net for the win!   Starting things off for the Highlanders was a goal by Dalton Black with assists to Troy Weber and Mitchell Newson.  Second goal was scored by Mike Fieghen, assisted by Noah Solinger and Eric Charlebois.  The third goal came from Noah Johnson assisted by Jacob Lee.  Not satisfied with just an assist, Lee turned it on to score the fourth goal assisted by Johnson and Logan Swanton.  Mike Fieghan answered back with his second goal assisted by Charlebois and Solinger.  The Highlanders wrapped it up with a goal from Brady Reeves-Coburn assisted by Black and Newson.

Feeling great with a win behind them the team met up with the Markham Majors.  This was a back and forth game with great effort coming from the Highlander squad.  Jack Armstrong earned game MVP in net for the team.  The final score was 4-2 in favour of the Majors.  Goals were scored by defenseman Joshua Urshott from the point assisted by Lee and Weber.  The second goal was from Johnson assisted by Weber and Lee.  The team dug deep as they played with a short bench due to penalties and injuries.  A well fought battle by the entire squad!

Saturday morning brought a battle between the Whitby Wildcats and the Waste Management Peewees.  This was a 6-1 loss for the team with the goal scored by Noah Solinger assisted by Brady Reeves-Coburn.  Game MVP was defenseman Brady Reeves-Coburn.

Things looked daunting for the squad as the afternoon game meant a match up with the Peterborough Petes.  The Petes had played three games this tournament scoring a total of 23 goals and allowing only one goal against.  The Highlander bench was short with injuries and penalties, and legs were tired from an already busy weekend of hockey.  The team rebounded and came out flying against the Petes.  The game remained scoreless until there was less than 2 minutes in the first period, the Petes put one on the board.  The Highlanders definitely had the Peterborough team nervous as they played stride for stride with this skilled team.  Defensive players Quinton Maddock, Danny Skinner and Dylan Reeves came up big for the team in this match-up giving support to goalie Jack Armstrong.  In the end the Petes won the game 6-2, but the Highlanders had them on the run and should feel proud to face this team and come out so strong.  Goals were scored by Charlebois with assists to Weber and Swanton, and Weber from Johnson and Black.  Jacob Lee was awarded the game MVP.

The team travels next to Oakville on Saturday October 15th for a match up with the Oakville Rangers Peewee squad.
