Superior Midgets Tie Welland
In their only game this weekend the Superior Road Midgets managed a tie with Welland in Flesherton.

This was the first meeting this season between the two teams, and it was a fast paced game throughout with lots of end to end action.  The Highlanders played well and managed the first goal near the end of the first period.  24 seconds into the second period the Highlanders took their first penalty of the game, and the effective Welland powerplay took only 25 seconds to tie the game.  The Highlanders took another penalty at 12:13 and this time the Welland powerplay only needed 5 seconds to score.  Finding themselves behind the Superior Midgets turned it up and continued to create lots of scoring opportunities, with tender Craddock doing his job to keep our boys in the game.  Persistance along with some extra effort by Crawford paid off with Thomson scoring a tying goal before the period ended.  The Highlanders were assessed their third penalty of the game with 29 seconds remaining in the second, so they started the final period shorthanded.  The Welland powerplay capitalized again scoring a minute into the third to once again give them the lead.  Unfortunately the Highlander powerplay was not as effective in this game, although kudos to the Welland goalie as he robbed more than one Highlander during the game.  Our Highlanders continued to battle and seemed to control the final period and were rewarded for their hard work when Thomson scored his second of the game to tie it up with 4:54 remaining on the clock.  Some scary moments when the Highlanders got another penalty with 3:19 remaining, but this time the penalty killing team was effective and held the Welland powerplay off.  Our midgets got one last powerplay opportunity for the last 2 minutes of the game but the Welland tender held them off, and the final score remained 3-3.  Great game boys!

The Highlanders next game is Sunday November 22nd vs Hamilton at the Mohawk Quad.  Lots of time to prepare for a better showing than our last trip to the Hammer!
