OUR COACHES

Tyler Rennie (U10)

Tyler joins us from Georgian Shores Minor Hockey where he is currently the U11 Rep Coach. He has also been involved with the Blue Thunder Spring Program and conducts hockey skills clinics for local players of all ages. Tyler is in the final phase of his D1 Coaching Certification. Tyler believes building the personal character of a player is as important as developing hockey skills. This must be accomplished in an environment where young players are excited to come to the rink. He looks forward to providing local players the opportunity to further develop their skills at the AAA level.

Brent Fisher (U11)

Brent is currently on the Coaching Staff with the Owen Sound Jr. Attack U10 Rep and the Owen Sound Ice Hawks U13C Teams. Brent brings a unique view to Coaching as he was a Goalie playing up to Junior C. His knowledge of the game was broadened during his employment with the Owen Sound Attack in a variety of business and operation roles. He is Coach 2 Certified and will be pursuing his D1 Certification prior to next season. Brent believes that his role is to develop hockey players both on and off the ice and will encourage his Team to be involved in community volunteerism. Brent welcomes the opportunity to work with local players at the U11 age group.

Steve Taylor (U12)

Steve is returning with this age group after a successful start up season. He hails from Collingwood Minor Hockey and is a D1 Certified Coach. Steve's playing experience included Junior A and four years with Ryerson University. Steve believes success requires a comprehensive program of development both on and off the ice. He looks forward to building on the foundation established this year and to take the Team to the next level.

Jeremy McQuillin (U13)

Jeremy is part of the Coaching Staff this season and will be taking over full responsibility for the Team next year.  Jeremy started his Coaching with Kincardine Minor Hockey, including the role of Technical Director. Jeremy is a D1 Certified Coach and a D1 Coach Evaluator with the OMHA. Jeremy's playing experience included Junior C and several years of Senior A. Jeremy wants to create a Team culture that promotes high energy, positive attitudes and where every player has a role to play.

Terry Penner (U14)

Terry has been with the Highlanders for 5 years, the last 2 as both the Head Coach and Assistant of our U16 Team.   At the minor hockey level, Terry has coached in the GTHL, Alliance, and OMHA. His coaching experience also includes time as an Assistant Coach for the Guelph Storm (OHL). Terry is a High Performance 1 Certified Coach. Terry believes the following principles are critical to Team success: Hard Work, Discipline on/off the ice, Team first approach, and Enthusiasm. Terry is looking forward to working with this group of players as they make the difficult transition to body checking at U14.

Chris Minard (U15)

Chris has been with this age group for the past 3 years and last year took the Team to the OMHA Championships in his first year as Head Coach. Chris is a former Highlander and retired professional hockey player who spent time in the NHL, AHL, DEL and ECHL following a successful OHL Major Junior career. Chris is a certified High Performance 1 Coach and operates hockey clinics and camps for up and coming players. Chris is an enthusiastic coach who expects his players to be hard working, intense, and possess an attention to detail. Chris has a proven record of helping players achieve their potential.

Liam Francis (U16)

Liam will be returning with this age group for a 3rd season and will guide them through the challenging U16 experience.  Liam has been with the Highlanders for 6 seasons, one as the U16 Head Coach and he is a certified High Performance 1 Coach.  A former Highlander, Liam joined the Highlanders shortly after his playing career that included time at Junior C, Junior B and Senior A. Liam believes the AAA hockey experience provides the opportunity for both personal and athletic development and that a successful program needs to monitor the mental/emotional well being of the athletes as well.

Mitch Wright (U18)

Mitch will be entering his 4th year as our U18 Coach advancing this age group to the OMHA Championships the past 2 seasons. A former Highlander, Mitch's playing career included Elmira Sugar Kings Junior B and USports with Laurier University. A certified High Performance 1 Coach, Mitch is committed to this age group due to his passion to help players advance to higher levels following their minor hockey career. Mitch believes that players need to; work hard, be respectful of the game, commit to the Team systems, and take personal accountability for their actions and attitude.
