SKINNER SCORES WITH 7 Seconds Remaining
The Waste Management Minor Peewees travelled to Hamilton on Saturday for a tilt with the Bulldogs on Saturday and returned to entertain the Welland Tigers in Chesley on Sunday afternoon.

Sorry to say that the game against the Bulldogs was a bit of a lacklustre affair and we came out on the short end of a 5-0 score.  The Highlanders put in an effort this afternoon but it’s safe to say that they just weren’t firing on all cylinders.  The coaches asked the boys to hit the ice “hard” but when the boys hit the ice they landed a great deal more softly like a butterfly with sore feet.  We are battling the injury bug right now and the strong Hamilton squad took full advantage by scoring three in the first Period, one in the Second and one more in the Third.

Let’s just fess-up to this one. We were outshot, outskated and outhit this afternoon and that always shows up in the loss column.  But all is not lost and although we were a little weak in team play there were notable individual efforts by Evan Spencer, Tyson Wilkins and Michael Fiegehen who was awarded the www.hockeyshot.ca player of the game award.  We also picked up another injury this afternoon and that’s something we really didn’t need.

The Minor Peewees are on the limp. Coach Tom will be doing some line juggling and the Highlanders are a tough bunch as they prepare to meet the Welland Tigers on Sunday.

The Tigers came to Chesley this afternoon and the Highlanders really put in a great effort this afternoon and although we lost the game 7-3 it wasn’t for lack of effort.  The boys deserved better on this day as they out chanced and out shot their opponent by a 36-33 count but had a difficult time beating a Welland goaltender that probably had the game of his life.

This was one of those times “when the going gets tuff; the tough gets going” and the injury shortened Waste Management Minor Peewees hit the ice with two forward lines and six defensemen.  The guys were outstanding this day but the Welland Tigers scored the first goal of the game with two minutes left in the First period.  The bad guys added another in the Second before Eric Charlebois popped one in from Michael Fiegehen to bring us back to a 2-1 deficit before we gave up another as the Second Period ended.  We kept on forcing the play and never gave up.

These guys just had some bad luck and the final 5 minutes of this contest was a whole lot of fun.  The Welland Tigers scored three times in this time slot but our guys had the last word before it was all over.

How about the last minute of the game when Michael Fiegehen popped one in after a rampaging bull with a Chatsworth brand that looked a lot like Noah Solinger put a Tiger in the parking lot?  Evan Spencer picked up the loose puck and made the perfect pass.  If that wasn’t enough to show that The Highlanders never quit, Danny Skinner scored with 7 seconds left to play from Troy Weber and Eric Charlebois.  The www.hockeyshot.ca player of the game was well earned by Noah Solinger.

So we can be very proud of these guys on this afternoon and it was just one of those days where we might not have won..........but we sure didn’t lose.  Keep your head held high boys.

Next week is going to be busy as we play the Brampton Battalion and the Halton Hurricanes on Saturday and return to Chesley to meet the Battalion for the second time in two days.  This should be a dandy at 1:00 o’clock.

See you there.
