U11 Highlanders capture championship at Hamilton Steel Classic
The U11 Grey Bruce Highlanders skated to an impressive championship win at the 2025 Hamilton Steel Classic, capping off an undefeated weekend with grit, resilience and standout performances across the lineup.
The Highlanders dominated round-robin play, earning victories over strong teams from Quinte, Brantford, Cambridge, and West Seneca. Their flawless record secured them the top spot in their pool and a semifinal matchup against the talented Buffalo Jr. Sabres. Led by a three-goal performance from Hank Willis and a relentless team effort, the Highlanders powered to a 5–2 win, earning them a spot in the finals.
The championship game brought a rematch with Quinte. The Highlanders pushed ahead 2–0 early in the game, and Quinte battled back to take a 3–2 lead. Max Rennie sparked the comeback with a hat trick, and Ryerson Mink sealed the victory with the game-winning goal, securing the tournament title.
"Our group has played in many Sunday semifinals and finals before without breaking through, but this weekend everyone was working for the same goal," said Coach Tyler Rennie. “It was an amazing team effort and a well-deserved championship for this group. We have a very special group of players and families, and they were all a part of this weekend’s success.”
Congratulations, U11 Grey Bruce Highlanders!
