Richmond Hill, ON:  -  The Ontario Minor Hockey Association is pleased to announce the 50 minor midget-aged players who have been invited to the OMHA’s Under 16 Program of Excellence Selection Camp, taking place on March 30, 2013 in Oakville, ON.

The roster includes 6 goaltenders, 16 defencemen and 28 forwards. 26 players are from the Eastern AAA [ETA] League and 24 from the South Central AAA [SCTA].

The OMHA’s Under 16 Selection Camp provides the opportunity for the OMHA’s Under 16 operations and coaching staff to select two teams that will participate in the 2013 OHL Gold Cup in Kitchener, Ontario from May 9 – 12, 2013. Two teams of 20 players will be selected and announced April 16th, 2013.

“We are looking forward to the challenge of assembling two OMHA teams to compete in the OHL Gold Cup. Given the amount of talent and depth in the OMHA at this age group and the high quality coaches and trainers we have selected, we are confident that we will have two strong teams to represent the OMHA”, stated McCleary.

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual event created to feature Ontario’s top Under 16 players. This event will not only showcase Ontario’s talent, but is an evaluation and selection process for Team Ontario.

“This will be a very competitive camp featuring 50 extremely talented players,” said Ian Taylor, Director, Development Programs. “It will be exciting to see the top Minor Midget candidates from across the OMHA come together.”

The top 68 players from the OHL Gold Cup will attend the Under 17 Team Ontario Camp where the Team Ontario Staff will select 22 players to represent Ontario at the World Under 17 Challenge held annually in December. With eight teams and 160 players representing the ALLIANCE, GTHL, HNO, NOHA, ODHA and OMHA, the future of Canadian hockey is on display during the 20 games of the OHL Gold Cup.
