Minor Midget Garb & Gear Source for Sports 1 and 1 on the Weekend
The Garb and Gear Source for Sports were 1 – 1 over weekend play, winning 3 to 1 against Niagara North, and losing 3 to 2 against the Brampton Battalion.

The Minor Midgets home game in Chesley on Saturday October 22nd against Niagara North was their first win of the regular season after 4 ties and one loss.  The 1st period remained scoreless, but with just 36 seconds into the 2nd, the Highlanders scored on a goal from Josh Hopkin, assisted by Keegan McLelland and Colin Rigney.  The boys held their lead until 1:56 remaining in the period and started the 3rd tied at one each.  The third period looked liked it was going to be a repeat of the 1st period with the Niagara North goalie stopping everything the Highlanders shot at him until just over 4 minutes remaining.  Reid Simmons scored the go ahead goal, assisted by Connor Shaw and Chase Ambeau.  Rigney was able to score an empty netter on a pass from Simmons to finish the game with a score of 3 to 1.  Malcolm Young earned the victory in net for the Highlanders.

Sunday had the team travel to the Brampton Memorial Arena to battle the Brampton Battalion.  The Battalion were the first to draw blood when they scored in the 1st period.  Grey Bruce was able to tie it up in the 2nd on Quinten Bruce’s goal assisted by Ambeau.  Brampton went ahead later that period, which forced the Highlanders to start the 3rd period short one goal.  The Minor Midgets took advantage of a Battalion penalty, and Braden Boley scored a power play goal, assisted by Brady Richards and Simmons.  With 2 minutes left in the game, Brampton took the lead again for the last time to finish the game with a score of 3 to 2.  Cam Harron played in net for the Highlanders.

Their record over the weekend did not reflect the calibre of play that the boys played.  The Highlanders carried the play in both of their games and had a penalty free game against Brampton on Sunday.  Great job boys!
