The Minor Midgets had a competitive weekend at the Brantford Minor Midget AAA Showcase Tournament held November 11th to 13th with at record of 2-1-1.

The first game for Grey-Bruce was on Friday morning against the Calgary Royals Gold team and the Highlanders skated away with a 4-3 win.  Calgary came out strong, scoring 19 seconds into the game but the Highlanders tied it up late in the first period with a goal scored by Braden Boley, assisted by Reid Simmons and Robert White.  The second period remained scoreless but Grey Bruce went on a scoring spree, scoring 3 goals in the first 6 minutes of the 3rd period, Simmons from Boley & Connor Shaw, Steve Griggs from Ben Scheel & Colin Rigney, and Griggs from Rigney & Scheel.  Calgary came on strong later in the 3rd, scoring 2 more goals but came up short.  Cam Harron earned the win in net for Grey Bruce.

The second game for the Minor Midgets was a 2-0 win against the Oshawa Jr. Generals on Friday afternoon.  Scoring in the 1st was a shorthanded goal by Rigney, assisted by Josh Hopkin.  The final goal was scored in the 2nd by Scheel from Riley Robertson and Riley Cook.  Malcolm Young earned the shutout between the pipes.

The third game ended in a tie 1-1 against the host team Brantford 99ers early Saturday morning.  It was a tough battle for both teams with Scheel scoring for Grey Bruce early in the 1st, assisted by Chase Ambeau.  Brantford was able to score with 44 seconds left in the 2nd to tie the game at 1.  The Highanders were able keep the 99ers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, despite losing two players to injuries.  Grey Bruce goaltender Cam Harron played all 45 mins of this game.

With 5 points after 3 games, it was enough to earn the Minor Midgets a 6 place finish after round robin play, moving them into the quarter finals against 3rd place Ajax/Pickering Raiders.  The Highlanders were down several players to injuries, while many of the remaining skaters were playing hurt.  The Raiders were able to score once in the first and once in the 3rd to knock the Highlanders out the tournament with a 2 – 0 loss.  Grey Bruce goaltender Young played all 45 minutes of the game.
