Squire John's Silence Burlington
Submitted By Jerry Vanhaelemeesch on Monday, February 07, 2011
This weekend was a quiet one for the Highlander’s ‘97 Bantams, with only one game slated for a Sunday at home in Chesley versus the Burlington Eagles.

The team did spend some time together on the Saturday, gaining some knowledge from the Owen Sound Attack trainer of the team’s reason for success this season and how they prepare for their games.  The team then played some road hockey, had dinner and went to the Bayshore to watch the Attack win 5-1 over the Guelph Storm later that night.

On Sunday the Squire John’s hosted the Eagles for their third meeting of the regular season.  It did not take long for the home team to get the opening goal, that happening at 8:46 of the first period when Logan Davidson (Creemore) worked for the puck in the corner and then fed it out to Darcy Witt (Collingwood) in the slot, where he beat the Eagles goalie with a snap shot to the lower left of the net.

At 7:18 of the second period the Highlanders opened up a 2-0 lead with a power play goal on a wickedly hard, low slap shot by Garrett McFadden (Kincardine) from the hi slot on a feed pass by Witt.  Hugh Murray (Beaver Valley) also helped set up the goal by getting the puck to Witt.

About a minute into the third period, Brady Anderson (Chesley) scored on a spin-a-rama  move in the slot area, quickly firing the puck to beat the Eagles goalie.  Spencer Elder (Owen Sound) assisted on the goal.  At the 9:13 mark McFadden scored the final goal of the game on another hard low slap shot that went off the goalie’s stick and flipped like a tossed coin over his head into the back of the net.  Elder and Jordan Vanhaelemeesch (Saugeen Shores) assisted.  With the 4-0 final score Tyler Fassl recorded his 4th shut-out of the season.

Next Sunday at 5:15 pm in Chesley the Squire John’s will be hosting the league’s first place team Oakville Rangers.  Come out to support the ‘97’s!
