Squire John's Drop Game to the Canucks
Submitted By Jerry Vanhaelemeesch on Sunday, February 27, 2011
This weekend the Squire John’s G-B Highlanders Minor Bantam team travelled to Niagara Falls to play the Canucks.  With a one hour wait for referees, the delay likely played a part in the final results.

With a one hour wait for referees, the delay likely played a part in the final results.  The game started with both teams playing to a draw in the first period.  Early in the second period - in the Canucks end - a cross-ice pass was intercepted by a Falls player, who broke down the ice, with the Highlander defence giving chase.  Before the defence could catch the player, he fired off a shot from the top of the face-off circle to beat the goaltender to give the Canucks a 1-0 lead.  At 12:15 the Canucks struck again, winning a face-off in the Highlanders end to draw the puck back to the Canucks point-man, who fired off a high slap-shot to the top corner of the net to give the Falls a 2-0 lead.  At 10:20 the Canucks struck again with a man-advantage to widen the lead to 3-0.  After that the Highlanders settled down to play, but couldn’t beat the Canucks goalie to get back in the game.  In the middle of the third period, the home team potted another goal to pad their lead to a 4-0 score.  Spencer Elder (Owen Sound) almost broke the goose-egg late in the game when he rang the puck off both goal posts.
