The Douglas Cleaner Highlander Midgets went 1-1-2 this weekend in the Toronto Titans Midget Showcase Tournament with a win against Clarington Toros and a tie with the Toronto Red Wings.
The one goal losses came in games with the Markham Majors and Ajax-Pickering Raiders. On Friday at the Canlan Rink in Scarborough, the Highlanders started with a great game against Ajax-Pickering with close 2-1 loss. The Highlanders goal was scored by Blake Forslund. Later that day the Highlanders tied the GTHL leading Toronto Red Wings 2-2. The Highlanders goals were scored by Blake Forslund and Joey Terwoord. On Saturday, the Highlanders started with a 3-2 loss against Markahm Majors. The Highlanders goals were scored by Josh Sguigna and Jed Ironmonger. The second game the day was against the Clarington Toros and the Highlanders came out with a strong effort winning 4-1. The Highlanders goals were scored by Andrew Haefling, Patrick Bell, Nike Gazo and Joey Terwoord. The Highlanders record placed them 4th in their division and scheduled them to play the 1st place North Central Predators in the quarter finals.
On Sunday, in the quarter finals the Highlanders started with a 4-3 win against the undefeated North Central Predators. The Highlanders goals were scored by Blake Forslund, John Doyle, Josh Sguigna and Ryan Linthorne. In the Semi-finals with the Highlanders down to 11 skaters, the team put on a courageous effort but came up short with a 5-3 loss to the Mississauga Rebels. The Highlanders goals were scored by Josh Sguigna, Jake Weidner and Blake Forslund.
