U18's Open the Season with a WIN!
The Grey Bruce Highlanders U18AAA team took to the ice Saturday for their home and season opener versus the Guelph Storm.
Matt Vahramian had a solid performance between the pipes, stopping 33 of 34 shots he faced.
The Highlanders, in their brand new jerseys, didn't take long to get on the scoreboard with a goal from Nolan Edmonstone less than two minutes into the first. Assists went to Tom Harrow and Leighton Hurst.
Before the end of the first the boys would put another one behind Guelph's goalie. Connor Doyle potted the goal with helpers going to Matt McLellan and Nate Doran.
It didn't take long for Guelph to cut the lead in half. A minute into the second period they would find the back of our net.
The third period saw Guelph get into some penalty trouble, however they came out unscathed.
Still in the third, it was our turn to sit in the sin bin for a 4 minute penalty. However, the boys found themselves in the offensive end short handed and Brett Warrilow netted the third and final goal for the Highlanders, with Matt McLellan picking up his second assist of the game.
The Thanksgiving weekend will see the boys take to home ice once again on Saturday versus Hamilton and Sunday versus Oakville. Puck drop is 7:15 Saturday night and 4:30pm Sunday.
