U14 Highlanders 2021-22 New Roster Begins Regular Season with A Win
The U14 Highlanders welcomed back players from the past three years and have some new additions.  Returning forwards, Wyatt Thomas, Dillon Atikinson, Coen Galbraith, Ryan Broderick, Jaxon Boone, Jax Mertineit, and Zasha Ortman are clicking early with the team goals and systems.  New arrivals, Ryan Cranny, Owen McDonald and Jack McDonald have quickly become important parts of the offensive structure of this team.  On the defensive wall, returning players Ryan Farlow, Drew Acres, Grayden McKnight and Hunter MacPherson have been excellent mentors for newcomers Tyson Eurig and Riley Foster.  Returning goalie Jacob Fluney has meshed well with our new goalie, Lucas Parent.

To start the season, the team welcomed the new look Brampton 45s into Chesley Community Centre.  Brampton has an entirely new team and new jerseys to match.  Early in the game, it was tight as Brampton came to play.  As the game wore on, the U14 Highlanders had many chances, particularly taking the defense wide and cutting to the net.  However an excellent goaltending performance by the 45s stopper kept the game close.  In the second period, Brampton took a 2-1 lead, causing some concern on the Highlanders bench.  The team played an exceptional 8 minutes in the second half the second though, having scoring chances on each shift and managed to gain a 3-2 lead heading into the third.

Coming out from the flood, the Highlanders were somewhat flat and were making small mental mistakes that kept the game close.  The team closed strong keeping the puck out of their own end over the last two minutes and holding on for a well deserved 3-2 win.

The team still has things to work on, but there were lots of good moments in the game and lots of energy, giving the team lots of hope as they get going for the regular season.
