The Minor Peewee team knew it was in tough this weekend as
last year’s top team, Halton came to visit on Saturday and a retooled Brampton
team came to Chesley on Sunday.
Last year Halton owned the Highlanders in the regular season winning all four games. But, the team continually improved against Halton through the season and knew they could play them tough. It was a back and forth game with the Highlanders scoring first but then they sat back and let Halton bring the play to them. The Highlanders had one of the best second periods of their young careers outshooting Halton 9-2 in that period and taking a 3-1 lead into the third. On the first shift of the third period Halton scored on the power play bringing the lead down to 1. However, that is as close as they would get as the Highlanders kept battling for loose pucks and skated off to a 5-3 victory.
The team came into Sunday with some confidence but this Brampton team added a number of new players and looks to be a team that could contend this year. This game was fast from start to finish. The Minor Peewees are as fast as any team in the SCTA but Brampton was right there. The team got down 1 early but came back with a quick goal to notch it at 1. A dominating forcheck and a back pressure that is second to none and the boys wore down Brampton, earning a 4-1 win to sit on top of the league standings at 2-0.
The team has a long week ahead with four practices and three games on the weekend but the boys are up for the task. Great start to the season Highlanders.
