On
Sunday, December 16th hockey took a backseat for the Atoms.
The players on the Highlanders Atom team have been very fortunate this year so they decided to do something for the community that welcomes them every week. Although there are no players on the team from Chesley, the team practices twice per week in Chesley and plays all home games at the Chesley Community Centre.
The giving back began over the past two weeks, as players did jobs around the house to earn money to put toward the Chesley food bank. Then on December 16th, the team worked at the grocery store helping bag groceries and carry the groceries to customer’s cars. They also bagged food bank packages, swept floors and even washed windows. Finally, after totalling the money that the players earned themselves and received in donations, the team was able to purchase $ 315 of groceries for the local food bank.
The players took this task very seriously and did an exceptional job in the grocery store, earning many thank-you’s from Chesley customers and store staff.
