A Strong Weekend Highlights the Success of the Atom Team
The Grey Bruce Highlanders Atom team was in tough this weekend playing two of the top teams in their division. First up on Saturday was the Oakville Rangers, last year’s first place team.  The Highlanders played Oakville once this season losing that battle 4-1.   Saturday was a different story.  The Highlanders came out flying putting pressure on the Rangers right from the drop of the puck.  Some highlight reel goals and solid play by every player on the ice helped the Atoms to a 5-2 win.

On Sunday, the team played against a very strong Guelph Gryphon squad, again, the number three team in the division.  While the Gryphons went through some mid-season ups and downs, they were coming into this game on a roll and heading in the right direction with some big wins of late.  The Gryphons have some very dynamic players that can hurt you if they find space.  This game was physical right from the start of the game and the Highlanders battled right to the end of the game.  Down 3-2 getting into the late stages of the game, the boys scored a goal with just a couple minutes left on the clock to tie the game up.  While it wasn’t the most technical game played by the team this season, the entire team outworked the Gryphons, showed a ton of heart and came out with a big point.  This weekend, highlighted the continued team improvements for the group and is another step in a successful first year for the team.  Keep it going Highlanders!
