A Great September For The Atom Highlanders Team
Submitted By Heidi Macpherson on Monday, October 01, 2018

In the first season in the SCTA for the Atom team from Grey Bruce, the team is the talk of the league with its impressive start.  It is expected that Grey Bruce teams have to get up to speed to play in this league, but the team has proven that it will battle for the two points in every game this season.  After winning their first game of the season, the Highlanders have completed its first month of the season with a 4-3 record.  Beating Burlington twice and this weekend knocking off Brampton with a 4-3 win and splitting the double header with Southern Tier on Sunday, completing the weekend with an impressive 5-1 win.  Even in the losses, there were wins to be gained.  Despite a tough start against Guelph, the Atoms tied the third period and outshot the powerhouse Gryphons.  In a 4-1 loss to Halton, the team carried a 1-0 lead after the first period.  And against Southern Tier this weekend, the upstart team had 1-0 and 2-1 leads.

Being competitive in every game is the first goal of the team and winning games makes the start even better.  The consensus of every team that the Highlander Atoms have played is that this team works hard for every inch of ice and battles hard for every goal.  But this team is also laced with skill up and down the lineup.   Ten different players have scored for this team and every skater has earned at least one point.  The defense has been rock solid in their own end and is a big part of creating the offense.  The goaltending has been strong in every game as the team attempts to decrease the number of shots against.  Overall the hopes are high for this squad and the team is reaching many of its goals.  October should be an exciting month with more league games and the first tournament, in Rochester is on the schedule.  Great job Highlanders!!!
