The Grey Bruce Highlanders 2018-19 Atom
team embarked on their inaugural season on September 15th in
Burlington. Only two players on this
team had played any AAA games so the nerves were showing in the early
going. The team got over their nerves,
worked hard, showed some excellent skill and came back twice in the game to win
the first game ever for the 2008s!
Although the boys were down 1-0 and 2-1, the Atom squad showed that they have true Highlanders spirit as they dug deep, scored two third period goals for a comeback victory. Since this was the first AAA hockey game for most of the team, the learning curve was steep, as they witnessed first-hand the speed and talent that exists in the SCTA. However, the Atoms stayed with the Burlington Eagles every step of the way as their confidence grew as the game wore on.
There is no rest in this league as the team has a short turnaround, playing league favourite Guelph Gryphons in their home opener, with extra motivation for two Highlanders, against their old teammates.
