Minor Midgets Power Through
The Grey Bruce "Wes for Youth" Minor Midget Highlanders went into Pool A seeded in 8th place. Chatter was that the 1st and 2nd place teams had little to worry about but the Highlanders had a different agenda for this years SCTA Qualifier.

The team came out strong in an early game on Saturday morning against Buffalo with Matthew Donnelly pulling out the MVP award along with a well deserved shutout. The Highlanders then met the first place and highly favoured Hamilton team. The boys came together with strong defence and a powerful offence beating Hamilton soundly with a 6 to 2 outcome. Sunday morning, the team met second place Brampton. The team fought hard and scored the tying goal with less than a minute to go only to have their sails clipped with the goal called off. In the end the boys settled for a 4 to 3 loss knowing they had a tie (in their hearts!). The team didn't let this defeat stop their drive to get out of the qualifying round for the first time for the 2001 age group. The Highlanders soundly beat Niagara North with a 5 to 0 score which gave them the numbers they needed to go on. Brayden Kelso backstopped the team to their second shutout of the weekend.

With a weekend record of 3 wins and 1 loss, the Grey Bruce Minor Midgets advance to play the Guelph Junior Gryphons, winner of Pool B.
