Major Bantams vs. Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs - RS Game #4
The Major Bantams took their second place record into Hamilton on Sunday September 27th. to face the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs at the Gateway Sports Complex in Stony Creek.

Hamilton is a perennial provincial powerhouse so the coaches knew the boys would have their work cut out for them.

From the drop of the puck, our boys looked a little intimidated as Hamilton took the play to them hard.  If not for some brilliant goal tending from Brayden Kelso, and a great job by the GBH defense clearing rebounds, the game could have gotten away from them quickly.  After that first hectic ten minutes or so, the boys seemed to settle down and regain their composure getting several good scoring chances of their own before the period ended tied at zeros.

Although the played evened out somewhat, the Bulldogs got the best chances early in the second.  They scored two goals in the first five minutes of the period to hand the Highlanders their first two goal deficit of the year.  As usual, there was not quit in the 'Landers and they pushed back hard with several great chances of their own.  Despite that push, they were unable to beat the solid HBD goaltender and the period ended with the boys down 2-0.

As with all of he previous games to date, Grey Bruce came out flying in the third.  They were rewarded when Emmett Sproule took advantage of a rare Bulldogs defensive mistake, stealing the puck and putting a great move on the goalie to close the deficit to 2-1.  The Bulldogs stormed back and scored two goals within the next two minutes to take a commanding 4-1 lead.  Once again, the Highlanders showed no quit and staged some great offensive zone pressure of their own that forced the Bulldogs into penalty trouble.  Finally, within the space of a minute, all of the Highlanders hard work paid off.  Cam Lightfoot scored what must be one of the fastest hat tricks in SCTA history scoring at 6:51, 6:40 and again at 6:13 to tie the game at fours.  Kip Wilson assisted on two of the goals and Myles Baker on the other.  This seemed to stun everyone in the building, especially the beleaguered Bulldogs bench.  With renewed energy, the Highlanders continued to storm the Hamilton net and only some great saves and bad luck kept them from scoring the winner in the last five minutes.

The 4-4 tie kept the Highlanders undefeated through their first four games and kept them in second place for the time being.  Up next for the boys are two tough road games next weekend against Oakville and Brampton.
