Christmas Spirit with the Minor Bantams
Although the Grey Bruce Highlander Minor Bantam team could not pull out a win in their double header against the Niagara North Stars today, they did take some time to spread some Christmas cheer with Jim McDonald, Chesley's number one hockey fan.
Jim McDonald, former Special Olympic Speed Skater medalist, is a well known sight at the Chesley Arena where he can be found cheering on the hometown Arran Elderslie Ice Dogs as well as the Grey Bruce Highlanders who call Chesley home. Jim rarely misses a game and cheers loudly for the boys even when they are struggling. In the lobby, Jim can be found talking about hockey and his other favourite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Today the Minor Bantams took time out between games to thank Jimmy for being such a dedicated fan. The team with the support of Brian Warrilow, Owner of Garb and Gear, Owen Sound Source for Sports, presented a Highlander winter jacket to keep Jim warm as he travels to and from the arena.
Although the team couldn't get past the Niagara team today, several of their players had an excellent showing on the score board. Both Tyson Lina, who has just returned after a long hiatus due to a broken arm, and Cam Lightfoot had 3 point games (each having a goal and 2 assists). Also scoring was Jerrid Fossold with the first goal of the game and Tyler Karl who assisted the third goal scored by Lightfoot.
The Minor Bantams head off to Halton tomorrow where they have something to prove after their last showing against the Hurricanes. After a trip to Oakville early next week, the team and their parents will have a well deserved holiday break.
