Sometimes the
stats do tell the story. In 2 weekend
home games, the Garb and Gear Midget’s played creative yet
disciplined hockey to score a total of 13 goals in 2 games to defeat Niagara
North and Brampton. Over these same 2
games they only surrendered 3 goals against.
Of the 13 goals scored only 2 were scored on the powerplay, with the
remaining scored at even strength including an empty netter. Eight players recorded multi-point games over
the weekend. The Highlanders recorded
100 shots for and allowed only 56 against and were rewarded with one
shutout.
The first game on Saturday saw 5th place Grey-Bruce face off against last place Niagara North. Ethan Skinner led all point-getters with 3 goals and 3 assists in a game that the Highlanders dominated from start to finish. Other goal scorers were Ben Van Ooteghem (2), Keegan Angel and Brady Richards. Nick Redman recorded the shut-out facing 19 shots in the 7-0 victory.
The Sunday game against 3rd place Brampton was much closer yet the Highlanders were able to record a season high 53 shots against the Brampton netminder. Ethan Skinner and Brady Anderson each scored twice while Kyle Betts and Joe Heath recorded singles to round out the scoring. Brampton started off strong taking an early 2-0 lead but Grey-Bruce battled hard and fought back scoring with 0.1 seconds left in the 2nd to take a 3-2 lead. The momentum from that late period goal carried into the 3rd as the Highlanders scored 3 more times to seal the win. Tyler Fassl faced 37 shots and recorded the win in goal for Grey-Bruce.
At the end of weekend play in the Southern-Central Triple AAA (SCTA) League the Garb and Gear Midgets moved up 2 spots into 3rd place with a record of 8-3-1, with games in hand.
Next action for the Highlander Midgets is Saturday, November 30 when they face the Hamilton Bulldogs in Chesley at 1:45 before travelling to Guelph to face the Gryphons on Sunday.
