Strong Weekend for the Biermans Minor Midgets
On Saturday, the Biermans Minor Midgets hosted the Brampton 45's on home ice and were able to come away with a shutout win as a result of the strong effort from every player on the team...

The game remained scoreless until 57 seconds remained in the 2nd period. The Highlanders made good use of Brampton's only penalty in the game when Justin Donnelly (Pinkerton) found the net off a rebounded shot by defenceman Eric Langridge (Port Elgin). The goal was initially set up by the patient play of Jordan Caskenette (Owen Sound).

With just the one goal lead, the Biermans squad worked hard through the continuous fast paced end-to-end action. The insurance marker came late in the 3rd as Brady Becker (Durham) jumped on the ice and into a breakaway. Coming in on the left wing, Becks made no mistake burying it in the 5 hole. Highlanders continued to work hard right up to the final buzzer to secure the win and the shutout for goaltender Tristan Lewis (Port Elgin) who played a solid game to support his team.

Next up on the weekend schedule was a road trip to Oakville. The boys showed signs of travel legs early in the game and were back on their heels for the first few shifts. Getting back into the game, the Highlanders were able to end the 1st period ahead by one goal as defenceman Tyler Sutter jumped into the offensive play to net one. He was hungry for a goal after hitting the post earlier in the game.

The second period belonged to Oakville as they netted 2 unanswered goals for the period. The first came on an Oakville power play and the second was late in the period at even strength to send the Highlanders to the dressing room down a goal heading into the third period.

For most of the third, the game was even with chances at both ends. Highlanders were playing strong but could not find the net at even strength. Their break came late in the period when Oakville took a double minor penalty allowing the Grey Bruce Highlanders to go on the power play. First to strike and tie the game was Jordan Caskenette, assisted by Brent West (Chesley Lake) and Alec Tiley (Shallow Lake). With the first of the double minor not yet expired, the boys were able to go on the power play once again. As Collin Zettler (Hanover) drove the puck deep into the Oakville end, Brent West was able to pick up the puck behind the net and quickly pass it to Tristan "Tiger" Rajendra (Port Elgin) who made no mistake burying a one timer. This gave the boys the boost they needed to play hard for the rest of the game as they were soon to be tested due to a late game hooking penalty in their own end of the ice. The play resumed at 6 on 4 with an empty net at the Oakville end. The relentless penalty kill by Logan Freiburger (Tara) forced the puck into the Oakville end and on to the stick of Brent West who quickly put the game away at 4-2. Kallen Macumber played a strong game in net for the Highlanders to keep Oakville at just the two goals to support the team effort.

Next up for the Minor Midgets is a road trip to play a double header against St.Catharines on Saturday at 1:45 pm and 6:30 pm. Then on to Guelph to play the Gryphons on Sunday at 5:30 pm.
